Things don’t always go our way. Things get tough, sometimes people say things that we do not like. This happens in classrooms and in the playground. We guide our children to emotionally regulate their responses to challenging situations wherever possible, be it in the class when they do not understand a concept or in the playground when things do not go their way.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Our parent Teacher interview booking system opens today. Each teacher has allocated timeslots before and after school to accommodate parents wishing to meet with their child’s teacher during weeks 6 – 8 inclusive.
Parents will receive an email today with details on how to book an interview. Please remember to add your selected timeslots into your calendars as school will not be sending reminders.
“LEGEND OF NEW LAMBTON SOUTH” LEGENDS
WOW WOW WOW!! To say we are proud of our students would be an understatement. Last week our legends performed in the school performance “The Legend of New Lambton South”
It was all systems go from the minute we returned to school on Monday with final technical and dress rehearsals in preparation for our big performance. For some of our students it was the first time they had ever performed on a stage in front of an audience. Our students should all be exceptionally proud of themselves for the way they represented their school whilst in the NEX club during rehearsal days and the performance night. Seeing the parents up dancing during the finale and the positive social media feedback guaranteed it was an event to be remembered. A special thank you to Mrs Garis and Mrs Oswald for their outstanding effort in organising this absolutely spectacular event.
A very big congratulations to the New Lambton South Teals debating team for their efforts today against Grahamstown Public School. Callen, Isaac, Marissa and Riti were the opposing team on the topic “All school sport should be replaced with classroom time”. This is a very difficult topic to debate against for our students considering the emphasis we place on the importance of outside play at New Lambton South Public School. Unfortunately Grahamstown Public School were more convincing today coming away with the win. Congratulation must to go to all our debaters for such a fine effort whilst competing in the finals. Well done.
SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL TEST 2021
Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials.
Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 12 March 2020. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from late-September 2019 at https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7.
The application website opens at that link on 8 October 2019 and closes at 10pm on 11 November 2019. You must apply before the closing date.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 8 October 2019. You must submit only ONE application for each student. Further information was emailed to all Year 5 students at the end of term 3.
Information sessions will be held on Tuesday 22nd October from 5.30pm – 6.30pm. Kindergarten students will then participate in a series of weekly school based orientation visits commencing on Tuesday 5th November 9.30am – 11.25am, Wednesday 13th November 9.30am – 11.25am, Thursday 21st November 9.30am – 11.25am. Their visit on Friday 29th November will conclude the orientation sessions and kinders and their buddies will enjoy a Teddy Bears Picnic together.
An information session for our Year 5 2020 Opportunity Class students and parents will be held on Tuesday 22nd October 5.30pm – 6.30pm. Families will be able to ask questions and also hear about our special programs and opportunities in visual arts, performing arts, sport, music and technology. An orientation day is also planned for Wednesday 4th December 2019. This visit allows new students to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings. Students will spend the day working with the current Year 5 OC students and meet the OC teacher Mrs Tweedale.
P & C MANGO DRIVE
One of last P & C fundraisers for this year will be a Mango Drive.
We are sure the mango enthusiasts in your household will be very excited to hear about this fresh and healthy alternative.
The Mango Fundraiser will be delivering quality mangoes direct from the farm to New Lambton South Public School. They specialise in the world renown “Kensington Pride” mangoes also known as the Bowen mango. The mangoes are matured on the tree to ensure they are superior in taste and texture. Each tray of mangoes weighs approx 7kg. The number of mangoes in a tray depends on the size of the mango. Tray sizes are from 14 to 20 mangoes in each tray. We are selling each tray for $25.
All orders and payments are to be returned to the school office by TUESDAY 29TH OCTOBER (Week 3 Term 4).
Please tell your mango loving relatives, neighbours, friends, sporting groups and work colleagues of this opportunity for them to buy the freshest mangoes of the season from New Lambton South Public School.
Mangoes should be delivered around the first week of December (depending on their ripening) and need to be picked up on the delivery day or next day from our school. The school will send a message on CareMonkey when we know the delivery details. We can also email or text you to let you know.
All monies raised in this fundraising event this year will go towards environmental resources for our school.
