DA VINCI DECATHLON
Last week a number of our Year 5 and 6 students ventured to Bishop Tyrrell College for the Da Vinci Decathlon. The Da Vinci Decathlon is an incredibly difficult series of challenges in a range of key learning areas and problem solving which requires students to work as teams throughout the day to solve increasingly complex and demanding problems. There were only two public schools represented with the rest of the participants being from the private and independent sectors.
Our students performed so well winning both the Year 5 and the Year 6 competitions!
Needless to say we are incredibly proud of their achievements.
They will now travel to Knox College in Sydney to take on the elite Sydney private schools.
Well done to all students who competed in our annual Lap-A-Thon / Cross Country event. Please see the Week That Was for more details and pictures from the day. Our students who will progress to zone will be advised in the following days. Congratulations to everyone for their great fundraising efforts and their fantastic behaviour on the day. Thanks to all the parents and carers who came along to support our children. It was great seeing you all there.
MATHS PANEL – GROWTH
Our school is consistently recognised as outstanding in a range of areas. As a result of our excellent results and growth in NAPLAN mathematics, Ms Shephard and I have been selected to lead a group of principals and teachers to identify the best ways of teaching mathematics across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Regions. This process will investigate the best practices of teaching mathematics and assist other schools to develop their mathematics teaching.

OC CLASS PLACEMENT FOR 2020
Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and talented students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments.
How to apply:
Parents must apply online from the department’s website at the following link from 30 April:
and should read the instructions carefully.
Online applications are available between 30 April and 17 May 2019.
You must apply by the due date. You will:
- Register to receive a password using your own email address, not one belonging to your child
- Log in to complete the application using the password
- Submit your application
- Receive an email confirming that you have successfully submitted your application
- Check the attachment to the email to confirm all details are accurate.
The attachment will contain an application number in the format C19 123 456. You must quote your application number whenever you enquire about your application.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team for assistance after 30 April 2019.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
Remember: The school cannot apply on your behalf.
The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 31 July 2019.
A detailed information pack has been emailed to all parents. Please contact the school if you haven’t received this information and would like to make an application for your Year 4 student.
FEEDBACK FROM EASTER HAT PARADE
We hope that a family member will be able to attend the Grandfriend’s visit and/or Easter Hat Parade.
If you have a family member attending, we would like your thoughts on how the day went.
From Thursday, we ask that you complete a six question survey so we can get your feedback on the day’s events.
Please follow the link:
This survey should take approximately two minutes to complete. Thanks for taking the time. We really value your input.
Our next installation into the crazy animal menagerie is ready for placement. Nic, our new general assistant, has been busy utilising some of his creative skills to create Tiger Cow!
NEW P AND C EXECUTIVE
After the last General Meeting of the P and C there will now be a new executive team commencing their tenure in term 2. There are some final processes to undertake to ensure a smooth transition and once these are completed I will include them in the Principals Blog.
Have a lovely holiday
