DOGS – Please be aware that we don’t have, or bring dogs into the school at any time. This is regardless of size or breed. I would also encourage you not to tie your dogs up at the entry points to our school as students exiting or entering the school have to pass close by them and this is a real issue for those students with allergies and phobias of dogs. Many thanks for supporting the school with this issue.
BIRTHDAY TREATS – The school, in collaboration with P & C, ask that birthday treats and food are no longer brought to school in the form of cupcakes, lollies, ice creams.
This is based on the NSW State Government’s Priority to reduce childhood obesity and on research by Dr Phillip Morgan of the University of Newcastle. Teachers will replace the cupcakes with a badge, certificate or special jobs for the day to celebrate your child’s birthday instead. There are numerous reasons why the school has taken this view including students who have food allergies and intolerances, the impact on families to prepare treats and commitment as a NSW school to support the Premiers Priorities.
PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS – This week our parent/teacher meetings have commenced. In 2018 the school developed a strategy to engage more frequently with parents in relation to student learning and achievement of individual goals. We look forward to talking with you about your children and having your input into their progress throughout the year.
ZONE SWIMMING CARNIVAL – On Tuesday, thirty-five of our students competed in the Zone PSSA Swimming Carnival held at Lambton Pool. On a warm, sunny day, our students swam and boisterously supported each other whilst enjoying a thoroughly enjoyable day. Special congratulations go to Oliver D, who qualified for the Regional Carnival in the 8yr boys 50m freestyle. A big thank you must also go out to our parents who supported our kids and our school!
CANTEEN – This week our canteen was awarded a 5 Star Food and Safety rating by Newcastle Council. In addition to this they have been recognised by the Healthy School Canteens office as 100% compliant as a healthy school canteen.
Well done to Kylie and Jean for all their hard work, we don’t know what we would do without you. If you would like to volunteer in the canteen get in touch with the school!
