This week we celebrated Harmony Day. Our students embraced Harmony Day by learning about the different cultural beliefs and traditions, we would like to thank all of our guests that came in and shared their experiences with our students.
Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The theme this year was ‘everyone belongs’.
Harmony Day Celebrations
KB and KF students had a visit from one of our teachers Mrs Makhloof. Mrs Makhloof spoke to the students about her cultural background. The students had a lot of fun making peg animals.
“Do the right thing even when no one is looking!”
“Leadership requires commitment, communication, respect, team work, caring, risk taking, looking out for others and doing your personal best.”
“Be persistent, have confidence, believe in yourself and be yourself!”
On Wednesday, 20th of March, we held our first ever Student Representative Council (SRC) Leadership Training Day. As you can see from the above quotes, we learned a lot about leadership!
Our school is excited to have formed the SRC, which is a group of students elected by their fellow students to represent all students in the school. The SRC will work democratically to represent the student body in school decision-making and organise ways for students to participate in school life.
At our Leadership Training Day, students engaged in a range of activities to build their team work and communication skills. They were inspired by Dr Kirsten Molloy the CEO of Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator with a very informative and interesting presentation. Our students had the opportunity to ask some very insightful questions. Mr Pryce challenged students to think about always doing the right thing even when no one is watching, as well as providing some examples of how to lead by example.
Students are eager to turn this knowledge into action. We will be meeting weekly to review feedback from students across the school. We look forward to making more positive changes within our school!
Year 2 – Maitland Art Gallery Excursion
Year 2 students travelled to the Maitland regional art gallery today. The students had the opportunity to explore the gallery with a treasure hunt and listen to the artists talk about their artworks. They all had a lot for fun playing with shadow puppets and making party hats.
