Wow! Week 7 has been an exciting week full of adventures at NLSPS! Check out what they have been up too!
Fragrant Garden – The garden has been growing slowly due to the weather but the enthusiasm is constant with dedicated workers who love to assist in watering, weeding and moving the last of the wood chip. We have been provided with a new tumbler compost bin from our P&C. This lovely gift along with two plastic shovels and wheelbarrow are now a great help to the maintenance of this lovely area. Thank you P&C! Mrs Drinkwater.
Stage 2 Camp – Year 4 students this week travelled to The Great Aussie Bush Camp for 3 days. Year 3 students joined them on Thursday for an exciting adventure. They participated in activities such as canoeing, rock climbing and playing in the sand. All students and staff had a great adventure with plenty of stories to tell they families.
ICAS Digital Technology and Science – This week students completed the ICAS Digital Technology and Science assessments. The ICAS Assessments are designed to assess students’ ability to apply classroom learning in new contexts, using higher order thinking and problem solving skills.
Debating – Well done to our debating team who won their debate this week. They now move on to round 2 of the knockout stage. Their next debate will be against the winners of Biddabah Public School and Dudley Public School.
Girl’s Knockout Touch Football Day – On Wednesday, the Girls Knockout Touch Football Team competed in 2 games. They won their first game 5-1 against Seaham Public School. Unfortunately, their second game against Hamilton South Public School ended with a 7-2 loss. The girls played especially well in the extreme heat and playing 2 games in a row. They were absolutely exhausted by the end of the day.
Visual Arts Stage 3 – In Term 3 Stage 3 have been appreciating the illustrations contained in ‘Australian Birds‘. Matt Chun is an Australian artist/illustrator who has created many drawings/watercolours of a variety of well known native birds. 5/6G have experienced a variety of drawing and paint media with
realistic results. The following examples are based on using a white pencil on black paper which gives a delicate representation of each of the Australian birds. The next activity will be reproducing these images onto small canvases.
Kindergarten Hunter Valley Zoo – Our Kindergarten students visited Hunter Valley Zoo today. The students explored the many different animal exhibits available. They were very excited to see the lion being feed and get nice and close with a very friendly camel.
